I dug through the you support pages and they claim problem is related to
corrupt cookies.

My server is for a school district so we get alot of you tube hits
during the day.

clearing the proxy cache fixes the problem, every time.

I have setup the cache to not cache anything from youtube, flv files,
and some other settings but it still happens.

Any other things that might work by not being cached? Or is there a
better way to automatically clear the cache then scripting in the
Scheduled tasks unload proxy and proxy -cc?

I'm glad you mentioned not caching YouTube. I was going to try that,
but I guess it won't help. It certainly appears that there's a systemic
problem here, but I sure don't know what it is. If clearing the BM
cache is the only workaround that's really not acceptable. On a
positive note I have not been made aware of problems with any other web
sites.

One of the settings in my proxy.cfg file is one to not cache sites with
cookies. Is that still enabled? Might be useful here.

Maybe the only way to really see what is happening is to use PKTSCAN on
the server to capture packets, and really dig into the resulting traces
to see what is being sent by the proxy to Youtube, and what is being
returned.

An alternative, such as it is, would be to set up filter exceptions to
allow the Youtube network(s), and configure browsers not to use proxy
for those URL's.

I'm using version 30 of your proxy.cfg file. have been since I
upgraded to BM3.9

I don't think we can use the second option because we have to block
YouTube from our students but allow it for teachers. I'm sure the first
option would work if I had the expertise to do that. In the meantime
I'm hoping that the shift-reload browser workaround will do the job.
Time will tell, but if it does then we could live with that. Thanks for
the good ideas, though.

Well, it shouldn't be caching the site then, at least any part that is
using a cookie. Which makes me wonder why it seems to be having a
caching-related issue (as opposed to just a proxy-related issue).

Perhaps you can check the logs (or wireshark traces) closely, and see
if there are some other linked URL's in the traffic that need be
configured as non-cachable URL's.

I'll give that a look. I know it seems to be some change on Youtubes
part.

Prior to June (end of school year) we had to clear the cache for this
problem maybe once every 3-4 weeks. Now it is a daily thing. And the
only thing I did over the summer was disable then re-enable the access
rule restrictions. So all the college groups wouldn't have to worry
about potential restriction problems, when I might not have been around
to unblock a site.

Do you have RTMonitor? Very handy for looking at traffic going through
proxy and debugging things.

Seems like the key is to find something being cached and prevent that.

Digging through logs, and youtubes support site.

Youtube.com,
google.com ( the have all sorts of servers all over the world such as
bfewey.vp.video.l.google.com).
ytimg.com

All have to do with youtube and the videos. I just added google and
ytimg to the non-cache list. and I'll find out early next week if it
worked
