Yep, it's the horizontal scaling. I tried to replicate the issue with
Arial black. I only needed about 150% scaling to make things look
similar and got the same result as you did. I converted the text to
paths and the export worked as expected the first time. I know this
isn't probably the answer you wanted, but at least we know what the
issue is.

As a workaround, create a clone of the text, hide one of them and
convert the other to a path for exporting. That way, you at least have
an editable copy if you need to make design changes.

Thanks Jim - did you try it yourself? You could easily just substitute the
Futura Cond with anything else and seed if the scaling creates the same problem
for you. It works OK converted to outlines. But I want to keep the text
editable- ie have it do what it is claimed to be able to do.

Thanks Jim for your interest. Is Adobe likely to take this on board and fix the script?

I can't speak for Adobe, but I know the FW engineers want to produce a
quality product. The best way, though to have official user input is to
fill out the bug report/wishlist on adobe.com.
