Default Safari SSL authentication on Macs

Hi all

Just before I waste the next couple of days of my life working on this,
does BorderManager 3.8 SP5 SSL authentication work with Safari?

With staff who own corporate iTouch phones etc now asking for web
support over our wi-fi, I need to revisit if Safari can now supported as
our stock answer for OSX clients is to install Firefox 3.

TIA and apologies for the slightly lazy approach to this by asking
before trying....

Andrew

I don't have an iTouch or iPhone to test on. I do have Safari 3.2 on my
PC (Win XP), so I thought I would see if it would work.

The key on getting SSL authentication to work with browsers has always
been to disable support for TLS 1.0 in the browser properties. To my
surprise, when I looked at the Advanced tab in the Safari properies, it
just pulled up the Windows connections setting window, and I'd already
disabled TLS support for IE there.

I tested Safari, and the SSL authentication worked fine. I tested
against BM 3.9sp1, but I don't think there is any difference in the SSL
authentication subsystem with 3.8.

If you can find a setting in the iPhone/iTouch to disable TLS support, I
think it should work.

Thanks as always for your quick reply, sounds promising. Will grab an
iTouch user and see if you can change the TLS settings in the OS. I'll
report back any findings.

Will also check TLS settings with Safari on OSX 10.5 as this would
cheer up our Mac Administrators no end!!

Cheers

Not having much in the way of a Mac to test with (my wife has a Mac
mini I could borrow), I've not been able to test there either. I do
remember people saying years ago that Safari wouldn't work, but it's
been through a few rev's since then.

Hi

Apologies for the late feedback.

We couldn't find any settings within Safari to disable the TLS
authentication so we have issued an in-house doc stating that we will
only support Firefox on OSX10.5 Macs and will only allow local intranet
access through our secure wifi network for iPhones/iTouch devices.

Cheers
Andrew

Again, not knowing much about Macs, perhaps there is a command line tool,
or some sort of config file that can be set to do what you want, as
opposed to a menu option in Safari?
