Default Connection limit for proxy users

Can anyone tell me whether it's possible to set a limit on the number of
connections a single proxy user can have to the server?

I'm seeing an insane number of HTTP connections from the public
interface of my proxy server, so I'm assuming that individuals are using
download accelerators or similar to utilize more bandwidth than they
deserve.

tia.

download accelerators are there to add reliability to downloading
total bandwidth is often the same for a single stream so you dont tend
to get a faster connection in addition meny sites downloads brake if
streamed

i gess you have to use the max valid connects line and limit it to say
64 an IP althought a university with a single IP would cause a problem

shouldent make a difference if its small data packets the total usable
bandwidth is the same just the network card getting a workout make shour
its all hardware

What do you consider an insane number?

Most pc's are limited to a maximum of 4 simultaneous connections from a
web browser (though this can be increased with a registry change). BM has
no such limit. If you try to download a busy web page from a
load-balanced site, you could get a dozen simultaneous connections from
proxy to that URL, each going to a different IP address. BM then holds
the connections open for a while, in case there are additional requests
made to the same place. That could result in a much larger than expected
number of connections over time.
