You mean, across the wire to a new server?
Like other such migrations, eDir objects/attributes will transfer to
the new server, but many files will not. That includes a lot of
INETCFG settings, which are mostly contained in sys:etc files. You
also have to reinstall BMgr, or manually copy the BMgr files in
sys:system and sys:etc.
Access rules should transfer over as well as proxy settings, vpn,
filters in NDS. But the filters reference the board names, and if the
board names are different between servers, don't except the filters to
be functional once migrated. (Another good reason to name boards Public
and Private).
I think for the most part your migration will maintain the hard parts
so you don't have to redo everything from scratch.

Yes, it makes it easier.

Remember, if you don't have the full version of my BMgr book, there is
the Lite version on the BM CD, and it will give you a number of things
to look at when doing an upgrade or migration.

Great! Check the migration section in there. Gives a number of
scenarios, and things to keep track of.
I prefer to set up a new server in parallel, get it working, and then
swing the old address over to it as a secondary. And when I'm at that
point, if the old server is NW 6.5 I usually go ahead and cluster it as
a backup.

Re: BM 3.9.1 to 3.9.1 migration
It is VM, so I see no advantage in clustering
Migration went really easy, not that it solved my problem....

The advantage in cluster, VM or not, is a quick and easy failover to a
backup BM node.
I set up an VM BM 3.9sp1 server last week on ESX, clustered to a
'hardware' BM 3.9sp1 server. Working OK so far, though I found the
VMware LAN drivers to be .... poorly documented. (I'm using the cneamd
driver with a manually-added slot number instead of the pcntnw driver).

Re: BM 3.9.1 to 3.9.1 migration
As I have no physical BM, then it would have to be a cluster of 2 VMs.
Certainly possible, especially if each was rule forced to be on a
seperate ESX host.
But that leaves me with a problem of DMZ, as this also has a rule that
MUST be on same ESX host (otherwise DMZ servers do not work, as they
have no "virtual" connection to BM DMZ NIC)
Unless of course I force all 3 VMs to run on the same ESX host...

When I set up BM clusters with a DMZ interface, I treat it just like any
other interface for routing purposes, using a secondary IP address on
the DMZ nic as the gateway out of the DMZ to the rest of the network.
That address migrates to the other node as needed, and the DMZ traffic
follows it. As long as you have a DMZ nic in each VM connected to the
actual physical DMZ subnet, I think it should work.
