Default Surfcontrol

Hi,

We use a licensed version of Surfcontrol on BM3.7, NW6.5 SP5. The
license is due to expire at the end of the month but the server is due
to be scrapped by early December. What will happen when the Surfcontrol
license expires? Will it:

a) just deny us any further database updates
b) revert to only the 7 (?) original 'free' filtering categories
c) stop working altogether?

Thanks

SL

Yes.

Yes, IF you stop and restart it. Otherwise it will continue with the
existing categories.

No, worst case you drop back to the 7 demo categories.

Look at Linkwall, from Connectotel. You can at least use it for a
45-day demo period.

you not paid for a licence, you paid for suscription, when this suscription expires the database only stop to download new sites and categories.

Hi Craig,

Thanks for your response. Is it definite that it reverts back to 7
'demo' categories after a reboot?

It's a shaky old server, I'm not sure we'll get through to December
with no reboot!

The older (Bm 3.8 and earlier) versions of BMgr did that, and I'm 99%
sure 3.9 will do the same thing.

I'd suggest you go look at www.connectotel.com and LinkWall. If you
get in a bind, you can download and install that as a 45-day demo and
use it. It's cheaper by far than SurfControl also.

Version 6.0 did that Sergio but Version 6.1 reverts to only the 7 demo categories as I have found out.

I thought ALL versions did that, though I also thought you had to
unload/reload cpfilter to see it revert back.
