Greetings,

Have an odd scenario where a public website pulls some images from
another server via port 81. When our staff use the site they fail to
get most images, but everything else loads correctly. I have tried
unloading filters and it has no affect.

NW6.5 sp6 BM3.8 sp5_IR1

Those behind BM boxes are encouraged to try... Enter "wheel" in the
search field and press "go". (none of these images appear for us)

First in the results list is "Great Wheel", the image URL is:

This site works fine outside of our building.

Any insight to this is appreciated.

Usually this would involve a filtering issue since the default filter
exceptions don't allow the proxy to use port 81. But there must be
something else going on here.

I'm testing, and I see a missing image on the great wheel image.
However, I'm getting a timeout whether I go through my proxy, while it
comes up, but very, very slowly, when not going through proxy. I'm
wondering if it is such a slow responding site that BMgr gives up on it
before it loads? (Default connection timeout for BM is 30 seconds).

Further update.

I kept retrying on the proxy connection, and eventually the image of
the great wheel filled in. I think that particular example is just
related to slow response time on the origin server.

I normally change one of the default settings on BMgr servers for
situations like this. In the Transport tab in the BMgr config
(NWADMN32 or iManager for 3.9) I change the 30 second timeout to 45
seconds to give proxy more time to make connections to slow web sites.

Thanks for the response. I increased the timeout to 45 and it has had
no effect on the issue. Site does not appear to be slow when accessing
from elsewhere. I also tried excluding it from being cached... no
change.

Sorry for the slow response. (Busy here...)

You probably need to take some lan traces on this to see just where the
packets are going on this, if there are retries or errors, and if you
send out a packet and don't get a response back for, say 50 seconds.
It may not be anything to do with BMgr.

Kurt, I just tried today the URL you gave and I don't have a problem
seeing the Great Wheel. I also notice that the URL for the picture no
longer has port 81 specified. When I highlight it, I get:
'Digital Collection -Great Wheel' (http://tinyurl.com/55z8nh) Maybe
they changed the setup???

Thanks to all whom responded.

I discovered a solution for this issue while addressing a video
streaming problem that recently surfaced for us. Turns out that solution
helped this problem as well.

I found a small -Non-Standard ports- section in the Advanced topics
chapter of Craigs book that discusses websites that redirect browsers to
non-standard ports. He discusses allowing just the proxy's public
interface access to the non-standard port.

I modified the rule to allow just the BM public interface access to
port 81 and all the website images now appear.
